Lesson 2: Doing this work for years, not weeks

18 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 14 · Lesson 2 · About 40 minutes · Needs: Module 11 (the kickoff plan, the runbook and the ownership table); Lesson 1 (working hours on site)

The situation

Thursday 14 May 2026, week 9, 21:04. Your phone lights up: "Carol rang about St Mary's. Can you look tonight?" It is Rafael. You have been on site since 08:00. St Mary's (HF-91318) went to the routine queue on Tuesday, Rafael leaves next Friday, Nadia wants you to cover Corran Parts while its engineer is on leave, and Ben wants time for a new prospect.

WEEKS 8 TO 10, SIMULATED Wed 6 May pilot starts Tue 12 May St Mary's missed Thu 14 May 21:04 message from Rafael Fri 22 May Rafael's last day 12 messages to your own phone outside 08:00 to 18:00
Three weeks hold the pilot start, St Mary's (red: a failure) and Rafael's exit, and your phone collects 12 messages outside working hours (amber: uncertain, still to sort).

This is normal for the role. This lesson is about doing it for years: your phone, your hours, your attention, and making sure nothing stops when you do. Harbourline and Larkfield are simulated. Nothing here is medical advice.

The rest of this course is yours to keep

This course is bought on its own, once, and stays readable afterwards, including the parts added to it later.
