Lesson 4: What a host owes the person using it

28 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 6 · Lesson 4 · About 45 minutes · Needs: Lesson 1 of this module (notes_host.py: Host, needs_approval, deny_all, the scripted stand-in); Lesson 2 helps (per-call timeouts)

The situation

Thursday 24 September 2026, afternoon. Nare starts using Lesson 1's host for real. She asks it to save "Nap study schedule" and gets one long line of JSON to approve. Tomas's calendar takes a second per call. A read of a missing note comes back as "The tool failed". Then the notes server dies, and the host cannot answer a calendar question either. By lunchtime Nare presses y without looking. Today you fix all five.

THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER, AFTERNOON Nare asks and approves Host Lesson 1's Stand-in model scripted turns JSON prompt unreadable slow calendar 1 s a call failed read no reason dead server all fail 14 prompts by reflex
Five problems in one afternoon, all of them the host's (blue) to fix; the stand-in (amber) only replays planned turns.
