Lesson 1: Shaping a server around the questions it answers

The situation

Wednesday 7 October 2026, week 5. The first cohort is in the sleep lab. Nare asks the host: "Is the sleep lab free the week of 19 October?" Tomas's calendar from Module 6 can only list bookings, so the model must list a week and work out the answer itself.

Tomas mentions that his booking system has a web API, and a colleague offers to wrap it "endpoint for endpoint" overnight. Which shape should the server have? This lesson answers the question three ways: a thin wrapper, a task-shaped tool, and a server that runs code.
