Lesson 4: The old HTTP+SSE transport, and choosing a transport

Module 2 · Lesson 4 · About 40 minutes · Needs: Lesson 3 (stdio and Streamable HTTP); Lesson 2 (the legacy handshake)

The situation

Thursday 10 September 2026, week 1. The prototype notes server runs over stdio and Streamable HTTP. Tomas tries an older MCP client example whose setup says "connect to /sse", and gets an error. Priya asks the real question: how should she and Tomas reach the server from their computers, and how should Nare's desktop apps?

You will run the old transport, see why it was replaced, move off it, measure the transports you keep, and choose one per situation. One search runs through it all: Nare's "nap study", which should return lab-sync-2026-09-02 first.
