Lesson 3: Local and remote transports, and keeping local servers local

Module 2 · Lesson 3 · About 40 minutes · Needs: Module 1 Lesson 3 (a stdio server and client, reading stderr); Lessons 1 and 2 of this module help but are not required

The situation

Thursday 10 September 2026. The prototype notes server answers "nap study" in memory. Today it runs the two ways real hosts start it: as a child process over stdio, for Nare's desktop assistant, and as a web service over HTTP, for Priya and Tomas later. This morning a debugging print() left in the stdio version put a stray line on the wire, and the server's logs move to stderr for good.

You will send one request, search_notes for "nap study", over both transports, break each, and check that a web page Nare has open cannot drive the local HTTP server.
