The situation

On Friday 9 October 2026 Ellie Shaw writes: "My X200 is in for repair again with E7. Is it covered, and when will I get it back?" Half the answer is in Hollin's documents; the other half is a row in the case table and a date sum.

The same week Grace asks how many unfinished cases each partner holds, a count, and Hannah asks what goes wrong most across the products, which no single chunk answers. A flat list of chunks ignores the shape of all three. This lesson adds a summary layer, an entity graph and a safe path into the case table. The Hollin data is simulated.

THREE QUESTIONS, THREE SHAPES Ellie covered? back when? documents case row date sum Grace open per partner? count over a table Hannah what goes wrong most? whole corpus
Ellie's message needs documents, a case row and a date sum; Grace's needs a count over a table; Hannah's needs the whole corpus. A flat list of chunks serves none of them fully.
