Lesson 3: Payloads, tenants and filters that keep recall
22 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 5 · Lesson 3 · About 45 minutes · Needs: Module 3 Lesson 3 (metadata beside chunks, filtering before ranking) and Lesson 1 of this module (HNSW, ef_search, recall@10)
The situation
Lucy Hart, a technician at Brook Street Repairs, asks Hollin Answers: "how much does Hollin pay for an hour of warranty labour". The right answer is £42, from her own partner agreement. Run against today's Chroma collection with no filter, the top chunk is Calder Fix's agreement: £39, a rate Lucy must never see.
Farah Iqbal, Security and Compliance Lead, asks: where does the wall between the partners live, who builds the filter, and at 50,000 chunks, does filtering cost recall? This lesson measures all three. The Hollin data is simulated.
