Lesson 5: Reasoning steps, verifiers and the ship decision

31 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 12 · Lesson 5 · About 75 minutes, most of it training · Needs: Module 12, Lesson 1 (the task, parse_card, score_cards, maya_bar, sft_example); Module 11, Lesson 3 (the batched cache, reused here)

The situation

Sol 446 at Aurora Station. Maya Lindqvist wants an answer: does a card model go into the maintenance system or not? Her bar is unchanged: all four fields exactly right on at least 90% of CARD_EVAL, and validation loss no more than 0.02 worse than base.

Kofi Mensah sets two conditions. Every comparison carries a seed noise floor, the spread between runs that differ only in their random seed. And the decision is code with a test, so it cannot move after the numbers arrive. The running example is log 5190: Omar Winters and the airlock motor.
