Lesson 4: Generating test cards, and transformers on tables

25 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 13 · Lesson 4 · About 60 minutes · Needs: Lesson 2 (the inline ViT, the 1,600/400 split, card 1601); Module 8, Lesson 2 (objectives); Module 11, Lesson 2 (greedy and sampled decoding)

The situation

Sol 447 at Aurora Station. Isla Duarte wants test cards on request: type "three green triangles", get a new card, test the robots' cameras with it. Kofi Mensah asks a second question: the cameras log a table of numbers per card, and the greenhouse logs a temperature every hour. Transformer, or gradient boosting?

The running example is Lesson 2's card 1601, "three green triangles": a caption to generate from, then a table row.
